Mental Illness and Recovery, or...It's all in the MindSometimes the hardest diseases to cure are those that don't exist.
The Voice of Reason
So you want to see a psychiatrist, do you? Are you crazy!!!? The Recovery Oh Yeah Model
We know there are people who are convinced they are "sick". The objective of the "recovery" model of treatment is to convince the people who are convinced they are "sick" that they can "recover" from the "sicknesses" they are convinced that they have. Social Dynamics
If the way you deal with a person's problem is every time that person's problem arises you throw that person in the loony bin you will end up with a loony bird. This person does not end up a loony bird because his problem is seen as his problem alone, no, he ends up a loony bird because his problem is seen as our problem. On Mental Disability
People who think illogically or behave erratically are given neuroleptic drugs. Neuroleptic drugs impair brain function, they mute the emotions, disrupt motor skills, and limit cognitive capability. Oh, now I get it. No wonder people labeled mentally ill find it so hard to recover. Cha-cha-cha-changes
If the "sickness" were bad circumstances then the "cure" would be good circumstances.
On A Presentation
The speaker had some vague idea about people consuming mental health, and I was thinking, uh, shaking my head, mental health is free it's mental illness that's expensive.
That Light Bulb Again
What is a person some doctor calls "seriously mentally ill" who doesn't get over it?... Get over it! The Way Versus The No Way
A television show I watched on the Discovery Channel awhile back was about urban myths, specificly the myth of a man entering a mental hospital as a part of a school research project who was unable to get out again. This show drew the conclusion that you'd have to be crazy to want to break into a mental hospital. Logically, if you'd have to be crazy to want to break into a mental hospital desiring release from a mental hospital would be indicative of sanity. Umm, there are all these people in outpatient treatment, consumers if you will, who have been there for years on end, and who haven't seemed to gain such enlightenment as this show had presented to its audience.
There Are No Sane People Shuffling The Hospital Wards In This StateThe Criminal Justice system has the Innocense Project, but the Mental Health system has nothing like the Innocense Project. Guess again? We psychiatric survivors are the Innocense Project of the Mental Health or Psychiatric system. Or more precisely, the MindFreedom Shield program of the organization MindFreedom International could be said to be our Innocense Project, or our Sanity Project if you prefer. In this program, sort of an all for one one for all approach to the matter, psychiatric survivors come to the aid of other psychiatric survivors threatened with involuntary committment proceedings. You can find more information about how you can join MindFreedom International and take part in its MindFreedom Shield program at www.mindfreedom.org on the world wide web. |
